In physics, and thus in "reality", the speed of light is a constant which shapes the nature of our universe in a fundamental way, perhaps the fundamental way. The limit of the universe that can ever know you is defined by a light cone, a 4-dimensional bubble whose surface recedes from you at the speed of light. From every entitity, every particle of matter, there is a constant flow of electromagnetic radiation, streaming out in all directions to the limits of the known universe. The camera captures an infinitesimal gulp of this, a tiny aperture open for a fraction of a second, and casts a vast dark shadow in the lightcone behind.

Open Source

I have a strong belief that open-source software is more robust and more flexible than closed-source solutions. In addition, they have the benefit of being free, or at least 'donationware'. The server is based on FreeBSD, running Apache and other high-quality open-source software.

Image Gallery

The engine driving the image gallery is Gallery, an open-source image gallery. It has a huge user base, and a smaller (but more dedicated) developer base. At the time of writing, it's lacking several tools which would be of huge use on pro photographer websites, not least of which is a proper lightbox module. I may work on this in the future, but the new version due out shortly will address many current deficiencies. For me, Gallery is better in many ways than products costing hundres or thousands of dollars, and I know that I can always customise it to do exactly what I want - if I'm prepared to put the time in.
The 'theme' of the gallery is closely based on that provided by Pedro Gilberto, to whom a huge vote of thanks for providing an excellent and polished skin on which to base the site.

Music Player

Another fine piece of open-sourceware, the XSPTF Flash Player provides a simple, elegant way to add music to the site. Apologies if you don't like it, hopefully I've made it simple to turn off and it will remember your preference for future visits.
